..... The Transitional Work Center is an on-site training facility that teaches vocational related skills through contract work from the surrounding community. The Work Center is divided into two classes. Both classes emphasize training in work-related behaviors such as following supervisor's directions, checking work for good quality, extending time on task ect. and improved communication skills. Both areas encourage the positive and satisfaction in work well done. Training in the appropriate use of break time is also part of their instruction.
.....On site contracts are obtained from businesses, schools, churches, and charity organizations in our city by both Work Centers. Those contracts include: product assembly; outcollating forms and pamphlets; bulk mail-outs [to include stuffing, sealing, labeling and zip coding envelopes.]

.....Work Center 2 concentrates on teaching each student vital vocational skills which will prove to be valuable to them in the future. In the Work Center we work on a variety of tasks with the goal of maximizing students vocational skills. Since we are the “entry level” class our goal is to increase time on task, follow directions, stay in designated work areas, and respect the supervisor as well as coworkers. Each student will have the opportunity to: use the shredder, collate papers, pick up the recycle, and sort nuts, bolts and washers. We have work contracts with Ace Nut & Bolt, AVON , and we receive sensitive shredding material from multiple district offices. We are however, always looking for more work. |
