Professional Library > Special Collections

There are several specialized collections which have been placed in the Northside Professional Library for district-wide access.

  • Language to Literacy Bags - over 100 thematic picture book and chapter book units in blue bags; appropriate for all ages
  • LINK materials - emergent literacy materials: multiple copies of trade books, big books, and books and tapes
  • Art and Music - videos and books
  • Foreign Language - travel videos, Spanish language and literature videos
  • Social Studies
    • Elementary - one set of My America video series, materials from Adventures in Time and Place, and American Girl, Riverwalk, Civil War, Greek, and Japanese Family trunks
    • Secondary - videos: Ken Burns Civil War series, Liberty! series, Chicano!, Vietnam: a Television History, History of the 80s, ABC Nightline from the 1980s, various Texas videos; secondary Riverwalk kit

Please note that the Northside Professional Library is part of the Organizational & Staff Development department. Most materials in the library are geared to professional staff development and are not intended for direct student instruction. Videos must be screened by the teacher if they are to be used in the classroom and district policy for video use with students must be followed. Teachers are expected to monitor any materials from the Northside Professional Library, print or non-print, before using them with students.
