Course Title Course Description
PLANTING SEEDS (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) In this two-day session, participants explore research-based techniques and strategies used by effective teachers to create a classroom full of successful, motivated students. This session will focus on the keys to developing a proactive classroom management approach: classroom organization, fostering a relationship of mutual respect, establishing procedures and routines, creating a sense of classroom community, focusing on instructional process, fostering student motivation, and managing misbehavior. NOTE: Participants must attend both days to receive credit. Administrative approval required for attendance.
QUANTUM LEARNING This 5-day training program will focus on a series of strategies that help teachers orchestrate student success through attention to the interactions that surround the moment of learning. See the attached flyer for more information. Attendance at all 5 days is required to receive credit.
SETTING UP YOUR CLASSROOM FOR SUCCESS (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) Discover strategies for creating a classroom climate that encourages student learning and enhances success.
LOVE AND LOGIC The Love & Logic approach puts teachers in control, teaches children to be responsible and prepares them for the real world. The practical techniques taught in this workshop are easy to learn, can change lives and help raise responsible kids.
NINE ESSENTIAL SKILLS OF LOVE & LOGIC This session focuses on nine essential Love and Logic skills that help create a classroom that stimulates responsible behavior and high levels of academic achievement. Neutralizing student arguing, Delaying consequences, Empathy, The Recovery Process, Developing positive teacher/student relationships, Setting limits with enforceable statements, Using choices to prevent power struggles, Quick and easy preventative interventions, Guiding students to own and solve their problems.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION THAT WORKS Robert Marzano asks the question "What works in education?" This workshop, based on Marzano's book, provides specific examples, suggestions for classroom practice, and advice for implementing the nine most effective strategies for improving student learning and achievement.
DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) Learn to accommodate the different ways that students learn and engage every student.
DIGGING DEEPER: USING DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY TO DIFFERENTIATE Learn how to promote powerful thinking in any classroom by exploring topics in deep and complex ways. Explore the 11 elements of Sandra Kaplan's depth and complexity and 5 content imperatives to find out how easy it is to differentiate your lessons using these elements.
QUALITY QUESTIONING (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) Based on the book by Walsh and Sattes, this session will offer a variety of strategies to engage students in higher level thinking. Participants will learn how to prepare and present questions to increase student achievement.
THE TOOLS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING: THE FUNDAMENTALS (Day 1) Do you want to "spice things up" in your classroom? Cooperative learning will make teaching and learning more fun and effective! This session will focus on classbuilding techniques and cooperative learning strategies for pairs and partners.
THE TOOLS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING: THE FUNDAMENTALS (Day 2) Learn teaching structures for groups to enhance achievement! Teachers will receive materials and learn strategies for teambuilding and managing students so that they may work and learn together.
THOUGHTFUL LESSON PLANNING Based on Madeline Hunter's book Mastery Teaching, this session will focus on the critical elements in planning an engaging lesson, with varied ways to instruct, motivate students and check for understanding.
ENGAGE THE BRAIN Learn techniques to improve education by making connections. This session based on Eric Jensen's work will enhance engagement by using memory and visual strategies.
AVOID THE DRAIN! USE THE BRAIN! "When it comes to building the human brain, nature supplies the construction material and nurture serves as the architect that puts them together." (R. Kotulak) Recognize impediments to learning and practice easy-to-implement strategies to ensure that your students are ready to learn.
PRINCIPLES AND STRATEGIES OF BRAIN COMPATIBLE TEACHING Participants will explore the basic principles and strategies of brain compatible teaching with a focus on the following: * Uniqueness is the Rule, Not the Exception * Connectivity * Attentional and Input Limitations * Environments Affect the Brain * The Brain Seeks and Creates Meaning * Prediction is our Strongest Survival Skills * Memories are Malleable * Adaptive Brains
CREATING FOLDABLES (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) Dinah Zike’s Foldables™ are student created, three dimensional, interactive graphic organizers. Participants will create foldables that enhance learning in all content areas, including math and science, and will return to the classroom with new exciting ways to engage learners.
BAGS, PROJECTS, AND MORE! Come fill your "teacher's bag" with creative make-n-takes to engage your students. These hands-on projects are just what you need to enhance the curriculum, spark creativity and promote critical thinking.
RUBY PAYNE: THE FRAMEWORK FOR UNDERSTANDING POVERTY Session will draw on the work of Dr. Ruby Payne, author of A Framework for Understanding Poverty, to provide educators an opportunity to investigate the effects of economic class on school achievement and develop the competencies needed to help children of poverty.
PARENT CONFERENCING & COMMUNICATION (Elementary & Secondary sessions available) Get "Parents on Your Side" and learn innovative ways to communicate with parents and organize & conduct parent conferences using resources from Lee Canter's Parents on Your Side. You will walk away with a wealth of useful and ready-to-use materials.
