Professional Development Appraisal System (P.D.A.S.)

The state requires that all teachers who have not been appraised under the Professional Development Appraisal System (P.D.A.S.) attend an orientation before being observed.

The P.D.A.S. is based on the teacher proficiencies described in Learner-Centered Schools for Texas: A vision of Texas Educators, approved by the State Board of Education on February 11, 1994.

Each teacher shall be appraised on the following domains:

DOMAIN I: Active, Successful Student Participation in the Learning Process
DOMAIN II:
Learner-Centered Instruction
DOMAIN III: Evaluation and Feedback on Student Progress
DOMAIN IV: Management of Student Discipline, Instructional Strategies, Time, and Materials
DOMAIN V: Professional Communication
DOMAIN VI: Professional Development
DOMAIN VII: Compliance with Policies, Operating Procedures, and Requirements
DOMAIN VIII: Improvement of Academic Performance of All Students on the Campus (based on indicators included in the Academic Excellence Indicator System [AEIS])

The data for the appraisal of each domain will be gathered from observations, the Teacher Self-Report Form, and other documented sources.

Participants may take the orientation during the summer, after school, or on Saturday. Please visit the ERO (Electronic Registration Online) to check for scheduled dates and times for training.
