Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

This is my favorite poem from Langston Hughes, entitled Dreams. I feel it describes my educational philosophy of teaching “the total child”. I realize that academics are important, but it is just as important for us to provide an avenue for our students at Stevens so that their dreams will be fulfilled!!

I am Rose Michelle Craig, Academic Dean at John Paul Stevens High school. I am a Northside product. I attended Meadow Village Elementary School, Anson Jones Middle School, and I am a proud graduate of John Jay High School.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and I also hold a Master of Arts degree from UTSA.

My years of experience as an educator have also all been in Northside. I taught at E.M. Pease Middle School and John Jay High School. I also served as an Assistant Principal at Tom C. Clark High School, and my previous assignment was that as an Assistant Principal at Earl Warren High School.

My family is very important to me, because without them there would be no me. I credit my success to the support, dedication and unconditional love of my parents, Rose and Porter Johnson. I am married to Eric Craig, and we have a beautiful daughter, Mikaela Rose Craig.

Helen Keller once said, “One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar”, so to the Falcon Community lets continue to soar to unbelievable heights.
