Students from other countries who do not speak English, or who have not acquired the language,are enrolled in ESOL classes at Stevenson Middle.
These classes are offered to all students in grades 6th-8th who are not proficient in English and whose first language is not English.
Mr.Moises Ochoa
is the ESOL teacher at Stevenson.

Beginning ESOL - Students learn the basic English skills that are required to speak, read and write. These are practiced daily to help them acquire their language skills.

Intermediate/Advanced ESOL - Journal writing is done daily to practice and improve the usage of correct grammar and spelling. Another focus of this class is reading. Short stories and chapter books are read for comprehension and to help students acquire fluency. They also visit the library to check books our for leisure reading.
