Northside ISD names its middle schools after Texas governors and famous Texans. Stevenson Middle School was named after Coke R. Stevenson, governor of Texas from August, 1941 to January, 1947. Through hard work and personal drive, he rose to the heights of State Speaker of the House, Lieutenant Governor, and finally Governor of Texas.  To this point in our state's history, he is the only person to have held all three of these top state offices. Mr. Stevenson's widow, Marguerite Stevenson, was present at the dedication of his namesake school.

Coke R. Stevenson, one of 15 middle schools in the Northside Independent School District, is located in Northwest San Antonio. Nestled in a rural community, the original school opened its doors in 1975 to educate a fledgling student body of 500 students. Since its early beginnings, two new wings have been added and the area has been annexed to the metroplex of San Antonio. Today, the school staffs about 100 teachers and serves about 1500 students. The Stevenson area has been growing by leaps and bounds! The passage of the 2001 bond provided Stevenson with much needed construction to accommodate its ever growing population. A fine arts building to house band, orchestra, and theater arts classes were welcomed addition.
