Frequently Asked Questions:
- Will my email address change?
- No. Your email address will continue to be firstname.lastname@nisd.net
- How do I access my mailbox when away from NISD?
- Using Chrome as your browser, go to gmail.nisd.net
- How will Chrome be installed on my computer/laptop?
- NISD is "pushing" Chrome to all machines. If you have a laptop, you must dock it or plug it into a network port in order to have Chrome installed.
- Shouldn't I see a shortcut to Chrome on my Desktop?
- No, we are not able to push a shortcut. To access Chrome go to the START menu, select the GOOGLE CHROME folder, and then CHROME.
- Can I use Chrome with Munis?
- No. In fact, Chrome is being provided specifically for email. Many of District web applications do not work with Chrome. Continue to use Internet Explore for all other web applications.
- I tried to send the Discretionary Leave Form to my principal but received a “strange” message asking me what type of email system I was using. I didn’t know what to do.
- You should save the form and then send it as an attachment.
- During this transitional phase do I need to do anything in GroupWise to make sure my GroupWise mailbox doesn’t fill up?
- Yes, you can do a couple of things:
- You can go into GroupWise periodically and delete all messages that have an arrow next to them. Those messages have already forwarded to your Google email account.
- You can go into Tools, Options, Environment, Cleanup and set your mailbox to auto-delete after __ days.
- What about my archived messages? How do I access them?
- For now, you will launch GroupWise and view your archives as you have always done. There will be another solution once we get through this migration phase.
- Will shared calendars move into Google?
- Yes, they will move with the owner of the calendar. All users who usually view the calendar will need to add the calendar to their account
- I’ve never used gmail before. How am I going to get training?
- For elementary campuses there will be two webinars per week. These webinars will be on Monday and Thursday. They are 90 minutes in length and are a GREAT way to get started. Watch for the Going Google posters on your campus for specific dates and times. Additionally, there are training documents on this site, as well as a video that explains how to get to the online training that is part of our Google accounts. Look under Getting Started for more information.
