Northside Independent School District provides transportation for any student who lives more than 2 miles away from his/her school, or for which there is a certified hazardous situation noted in compliance with Texas Education Code (TEC) Section 42.155(d). NISD has a bus fleet of 728 buses, 18% of which are powered by propane. Approximately 48,000 students are transported by bus each day, which is roughly 50% of the NISD student enrollment.

Northside ISD Route Management

Regular Routes: The Northside Independent School District has established certain criteria (as indicated below) to determine the bus stop locations for regular routes within District boundaries. Criteria including student: grade levels; environmental factors; walking distance; and other related factors are used to designate operational bus stops for a regular route. These bus stops are designed to ensure optimum route efficiency and resource utilization based on district-wide driver and bus availability.

Students will not be permitted to have "fluctuating schedules." This means that students will not be permitted to have certain days of the week on which to pick-up or drop-off at one location, and then another location the rest of the week. Fluctuating schedules introduce too much of a risk for safety to the student by the driver delivering the student to the wrong location.

While each regular route composition is unique, the typical walk-to-bus stop distances are provided below to facilitate a timely and an effective route system:

Category
Walk-to-Bus Stop Distance
Pre-Kinder/Elementary
Middle/High School(s)

.1 mile
.2 mile

Parental Responsibility for Students Walking to Bus Stops

Parents must assume the responsibility for their students traveling back and forth from home to the regular route bus stop. Students should be at the desgnated bus stop for the AM pick up at least five (5) minutes before their designated pick up time.

Riding the Bus the First Week of Classes

PLEASE NOTE: All Pre-K, Caps, ESL and Bi-Lingual students require 3 days to process before transportaion can be provided. Pre-K, Caps, ESL, and Bi-Lingual students must register by August 19th to have transportation on the first day of school. All other students (regular qualified riders) who are registered before August 19, bus service will be provided to and from school starting on Day 1 of classes, August 25. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from school until a phone call is received from the school with routing information.

Our Four Northside ISD Bus Stations

Northside School District covers a vast area of approximately 355 square miles. We provide transportation for our students most efficiently by utilizing a multiple bus station concept. This reduces "deadhead mileage" which is the distance from each bus facility to the first student pick up location and from the last student drop off back to the bus facility. We receive no state funding for deadhead mileage. By dispatching buses from four different bus station locations (listed below) we significantly reduce District-wide per mile operational costs. For more information, please contact one of our following four Transportation facilities. Bus Stations are located at strategic locations within NISD boundaries. Stations can be located on a district map By clicking here you can load and view the latest district map. If you do not have Adobe® Acrobat® Reader, click on this Icon for the free download.
