Internet Explorer

Whenever you want to do research on the Internet, you will use Internet Explorer. Try locating the following areas on the Internet Explorer window.

1) Address Bar - every web site has its own address. If you correctly type an address in the address bar and press enter, you will be taken to that page! For example, http://www.nick.com is Nickelodeon's web address.

2) Back Button - takes you to the last page you were looking at.

TO DO: Carefully type Nickelodeon's web address in the address bar with no spaces. Then, press the Back button to return to this page.

3) Forward Button - if you pressed the Back button, you can use the Forward button to return to the page.

TO DO: Press the Forward button and then use the Back button to return to this page.

4) Stop Button - stops a page from loading

5) Refresh Button - reloads the page you are on, when it didn't load correctly

6) Home Button - takes you to the first page of the Ward Elementary web site

7) Favorites - where you can store a list of your favorite sites.

TO DO: Add this page to your Favorites right now. (Click on the Favorites menu > Select Add to Favorites > Check the Name and Folder > Click OK.) Click the Back button and then go to the Favorites menu to return to this page.

How do you print the information you need from the Internet?

1) If you highlight the text you want, you will only print the information you need and not the entire web site Try highlighting only numbers 1 and 2 on this page.

2) Click on the File menu and select Print.

3) Select the round radio button next to the word Selection. This will print only the information you have selected.

4) Check to make sure you have the correct printer.

5) Press Print.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are the words or pictures on the Internet that you click on if you want to link to another page. Hyperlinks turn your white, arrow pointer into a little hand.
