Velentina Tereshkova was born in 1937 in Yaroslavl Region, Russia. She has a younger brother and a older sister. Valentina stared school in 1945 at the age of eight. In 1953, she left school. She started working. She loved to parachute jump. She was one of five ladies to be selected as a Cosmonaut candidate. She heard a joke that she should marry Andrian Nikolayev.

In November 1963, she married Andrian Nikolayev. Her baby girl was born in 1964. She divorced her husband in 1980. Her mom worked at a textile plant. Her dad drove tractors. Her dad went to the war. He was killed in World War 2.  She was in Vostok 6. She made 48 orbits. She spent three days in space. She was a spokeswoman in the Soviet Union. Korolev wasn't happy with Teresnkova's action in the orbit. She took control of the space ship. Her daughter became a physician. Tereshkova became a member of the World Peace Council.
