Bernard Harris

Bernard Harris was born on June 26, 1956, in Temple, Texas.  His mother's birth name is Gussie H. Burguss and his father's is Bernard A. Harris.

Bernard Harris went to Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1974.  Then he received a Bachelor of Science in biology from The University of Houston in 1978.

After Dr. Harris completed his training at the Mayo Clinic, he completed a Research Council at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffet Field, California.  Dr. Harris was assigned as a mission specialist on STS-55 on August, 1991 with Wetherbee, Collins, Foale, Voss, and Titov.

He was also in STS-63 in February 2-11, 1995, with Henricks, Nagel, Precourt, Ross, Walter, and Schlegel, it was the very first Russian-American joint flight.

Dr. Harris left NASA in April, 1996. He is now a chief scientist and he is also the Vice President of Science and Health Services. Bernard Harris was given The Challenger Award, and The Ronald E. McNair Foundation in 1996. He had one child that loves to fly, sail, ski, run, scuba dive, make art pieces, and listen to music.

 He is now a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, Aerospace Medical Association, Boys and Girls Club of Houston, and Mayo Clinic Alumni Association. He is also a committee member in Greater Houston Area Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Air Craft owners, and Pilot Association and ten more associations.
