Buzz Aldrin was born on January 20, 1930 in Montclair, New Jersey. Aldrin has two sons and one daughter. He is married to the former Lois Driggs. Their family has six grown children and one grandchild. He graduated from Montclair High, in New Jersey. He received a Bachelor of Science degree. Buzz Aldrin was educated at West Point Military Academy and was third in his class. Aldrin also earned a doctorate in astronaut study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
As a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force . He flew 66 combat missions during the Korean conflict in 1952 .
Aldrin was the second astronaut to walk in space. Aldrin was also the third group of astronauts named by NASA in October, 1963. He was on several missions, including the first space docking with the Russian Cosmonauts.
Since retiring from NASA, the Air Force and his position as Commander of the USAF Pilot School at Edward's Air Force Base. In 1972, he authored an autobiography," Return to Earth'', about his personal account of his life highlighting the difficult mid-life transition that followed his historic missions to the Moon .
In November 1966, he established a new record for extravehicular
activity (EVA) in space during the Gemini orbital flight mission.
On the moon he left a plaque which reads" We came for all mankind."
