Gemini Space Program
by Victoria

Gemini space program was a step between Mercury and Apollo. The major objectives were to subject two men and their equipment to a long period of time in space. The Gemini Space Program was named after the third constellation. The administrator of NASA is also the administrator of The Gemini Space Program. The person's name that manned the space center is Dr. Robert R. Gilruth.

The Gemini Space Program began in 1962 and it ended in 1966. On December 7, 1961, they had a plan  to extend an existing manned program by two man development of a spacecraft. Gemini was officially out on January 3,1962.

Some people who were in the Gemini Space Program are Dr. Robert R. Gilruth, he was the director. Charles W. Mathews was the manager. William C. Schneider was the Deputy Director for the Missions Operations.

They wanted to see how the body would perform at 0 gravity. They also wanted to see how the body would react in space if they spent a long time there. They found out that the GLV got a proper performance during a orbital insertion.

Gemini Space Program was involved with twelve flights. It's goals were almost met with landing but the landing was cancelled in 1964. The first capsule was only nicknamed Command Pilot. It is in reference of Molly Brown spacecraft that sank. The #2 Titan rocket is more powerful than the Redstone rocket. Sometimes they preferred the Gemini-Titan for the launch vehicle. Gemini space programs shuttle weighed 8400 pounds it was nine feet long. The flights were designated by a Roman Numerals. In January 1962, the second manned program was announced. For orbiting vehicles they  used propulsion systems. All of the important objectives were met at there goals too. They tested a Titan-2 launch vehicle and it came back great and successful.

Gemini 3 mission- the objectives of Gemini 3 were to 1) demonstrate orbital flight 2) evaluate the the two man design 3) show how and evaluate the tracking network 4) demonstrate Orbital Attitude and Maneuvering system( OAMS 5) to demonstrate reentry and landing.

Gemini 4 mission- the primary objectives: The effects of prolonged space flight. Demonstrate and evaluate performances of spacecraft and systems in day flight.
