Women's Constitution Day

Suffragists who paved the way! Emmeline Parkhurst was
a British Suffragette who founded the Women's Political and Social Union
in 1903. She and her followers used cleaning fluid to write "Votes for
Women" on the putting greens of golf courses where Members of Parliament
liked to play. She said that "when the liberties of British women were
being stolen from them was no time to think of sports." Each year students
at Dr. Joe Ward Elementary celebrate women getting the right to vote.
