My name is Sandra Vasquez and I am the Campus Instructional Technologist at Ward Elementary. I graduated from the University of the Texas at El Paso with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a specialization in Reading. I also earned a Master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Technology from Houston Baptist University in May 2003. My family moved to San Antonio in January 2001 from El Paso because of a job offer my husband got from Texas A & M in Corpus Christi as a Regional Math Specialist. We have 2 wonderful boys, Aaron and Brian.

I was born and raised in El Paso and enjoy going back to visit as often as possible. I worked as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Ysleta Elementary in El Paso until we moved to San Antonio. I began as a CIT in January 2001 at Powell Elementary. I am always looking to expand on my technology skills and knowledge.

Here at Ward Elementary, my role as the CIT is to assist with curriculum technology integration throughout the campus. I collaborate with teachers and students, plan and implement staff development related to technology.

Our goal at Ward Elementary is to integrate technology into our daily activities. In fact, our day begins with morning announcements broadcast live onto TV monitors throughout the campus. With the use of our video distribution system, it is the students themselves that serve as news anchors and reporters.

A variety of other technology equipment is offered to teachers and students, too. Each classroom has at least one computer, color printer, TV monitor and access to digital cameras. Our campus is also equipped with two Computer labs running Windows XP, laser printers and scanners. Each of the computer labs also has a Smart board.

Students are exposed to a number of programs throughout the school year including Microsoft Office suite featuring Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher. They also use Internet Explorer, Kid Pix 3, Inspiration, Graphers, Clicker, All the Right Type, and Kid-Keys
