Use of Technology in the Classroom
Thanks to the 1998 Bond, each and every classroom (including
the portables) has been wired for Internet connectivity, as well as the NISD
network. All
classrooms have a Dell teacher station, digital TV/monitor and personal printer.
More and more teachers are using the TV/Monitor to display their warm-ups
or PowerPoint presentations. The 2001 and 2004 Bond provided
for new Dell GX620 computers with DVD-ROM drives, allowing teachers to broadcast
DVDs
or VHS tapes on thier TVs.
Zachry Middle School is wired to the Internet with a T1 line for quick data transmission. Teachers have access to a variety of programs, such as Microsoft Office, eGrade electronic gradebook, GroupWise e-mail, a Curriculum Management System and online teacher appraisal software. This has resulted in more efficient communication, access to student files, grade reporting and other administrative tasks.
With over 40 digital projectors available for teacher use, we're utilizing technology to the fullest. Teachers assigned projectors are also given wireless presenter mice with track balls and laser pointers to free them from going back to their computers so often. Your technology tax dollars are being put to good use by our teachers!

Up-to-Date Mrs. Cabico, Reading teacher and Coordinator is shown using the Classroom Performance System (CPS) that allows students to answer questions via a remote control at their desks. Since this picture, she now uses a digital projector, which is easier for her students to see. Several teachers have won this system and the school has purchased several systems, also. |
Students
have a remote control with lettered buttons that they select from.
This method provides immediate feedback, allowing all students
to participate
in a non-threatening way. |

This is a great way for students to review at the end of a unit or prepare for tests, such as a Benchmark or TAKS test. |
