The Jimmy Davenport Memorial Scholarship

Jimmy Davenport grew up in the Leon Valley area as a member of one of the pioneer families and attended Leon Valley Elementary and Northside High school (there was no middle school at that time).

He began playing baseball in what is now Northside Suburban Little League and the playing fields were located on Fredricksburg Road where USAA is currently located.

In 1956 Jimmy played on the first baseball team in Northside ISD at the first high school in NISD - Northside High School (now John Marshall High School). At that time Northside did not have playing fields so the team practiced and played their games at Camp Stanley (now Camp Bullis) and spent part of their practice time making/building a field in its current location at Marshall HS. In their second year (1956) the team advanced and won their regional competition which was as high as they could go at that time – this was the equivalent of a state championship!

He spent 40+ years at Northwest Little League coaching both of his sons and then his three grandsons as well as countless other youngsters. He loved Northwest Little League, Northside ISD and youth athletics!

He enjoyed and supported youth baseball all of his adult life. So we, his family, want to continue/honor his legacy by awarding a scholarship to a deserving young Northside ISD athlete.

Please complete the attached application and submit to your high school coach. As soon as a determination is made we will notify all applicants of the results.
