Help avoid the “summer slide” by having your child read during the summer. Research has shown students who read over the summer improve their reading and writing skills, while students who do not read experience a decrease in their abilities. The goal of summer reading at John Connally Middle School is to prevent this slide and to strengthen your child’s skills through free-choice reading.
We recommend that students read one book (fiction or nonfiction). Below are links to review book titles to help your child narrow his/her choice to one book.
Students can access books at the public library, local bookstores (Half Price Book Store), and online book sellers. The students are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book they choose.
