Tuesday, June 2 We will hold virtual academic award ceremonies for each grade level.  Each core content, elective, and PE/Athletics will award one student with an academic of excellence award.  We will announce the winners during the presentation.  If your child is receiving an award the teacher will contact you, so you can make sure that you are watching.  The certificate will be emailed to the student by the teacher.  We will send out a zoom link to join next week.

8th grade will include the presentation of the Presidential Awards for Academic Excellence.  Those students who have met the criteria of earning a grade point average of 90 or higher on a 100 point scale over the course of all 3 years in middle school; up to the end of the Fall semester of 8th grade will have their name read.  This certificate will be mailed to the student’s house after the awards ceremony.

We still have several locker belongings that need to be picked up.  If they are not picked up by June 4th, they will be thrown away.  Please contact Mr. Castellanos to arrange a pick up or let him know you do not wish to pick up the items.  210-397-3715 or joseph.castellanos@nisd.net.

We have placed a library/textbook drop off in the front of the school.  You can stop by anytime.

Summer information:

  • We will have a virtual summer school for students who did not pass 2-4 core content area classes.  The summer session will last 10 days and begin July 6.  More information will come out in June.  You can contact Ms. Galan if you have questions.  monica.galan@nisd.net
  • The district is planning a Jump Start to the Fall.  This would be an opportunity for students to participate in short camps on campus that would focus on electives and PE/Athletics.  This is in the very early stages of planning, but I wanted you to know about it.  Of course, this all depends on how the summer goes.

Tentative dates, the week of:

  • July 27

  • Aug 3

  • Aug 10

NISD data verification is continuing,  please go to the NISD Home Access Center (HAC) - log in and under the registration tab- select Update Enrollment.  From there click start and complete this on each child. Deadline is June 4.  Make sure you are signed in as the parent, not your child.

Reminders: For those of you who would like to receive a refund from your child’s meal account please contact The Child Nutrition Department at 210-397-4548 or email  childnutrition@nisd.net.

Good morning Jefferson family,

We are starting the second week of the six weeks, you should start seeing grades in HAC by the end of the week.  We hope this will help you monitor your child's progress.  As always you can reach out to their teacher, counselor, or admin if needed.

We are currently working on the plan for students to retrieve their belongings from their lockers and elective classes.  We are following the CDC recommendations and the district’s timeline.  As you can imagine, this will take some time to be able to clean out 1,455 lockers, PE and athletics, and elective materials on top of organizing an efficient pick up process.  All of this with the limited staff we are allowed to have on campus.  So please be patient with us, we will send out all the details as soon as we can.  If there is something you truly need please call the campus to set up a pick up time.  210-397-3700.

Yearbooks should hopefully be on campus around mid-May,  We would love to be able to pass them out when students pick up their belongings from campus. We will keep you posted.

I also want to remind you to continue to stay in touch with us via social media. NEW for Jefferson, you can now follow our Counselors on Twitter: @WBJCounseling.

I am including the document to help you locate your child’s report card this week at the bottom of this letter.   Please call if you have any questions.  Remember you will only see grades for high school credit classes, but you will see comments for your child’s progress in all middle school courses.

I know that as we move into another month of distance learning and our new normal it is sometimes hard to look for the positive. I find myself thinking about all of the things our students are missing out on and not being able to say goodbye...   I recently read something that helped me focus on the positive, I hope it does the same for you…

BUT WHAT IF...

What if instead of falling “behind", this group of kids are ADVANCED because of this? Hear me out.

What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read, and they love to express themselves in writing.

What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyard and sitting near a window in the quiet?

What if they notice the birds and the dates the different flowers emerge, and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower?

What if this generation are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry, and keep a well-run home?

What if they learn to stretch a dollar and to live with less?

What if they learn to plan shopping trips and meals at home?

What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good to share in the small delights of the everyday?

What if they are the ones to place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential support workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, custodians, logistics, and health care workers and their supporting staff, just to name a few of the millions taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place?

What if among these children, a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and a simpler life to truly learn what really matters in this life?

What if they are AHEAD?

Remember, we are here for you and your family. Stay safe and stay home whenever possible.

I miss all my Eagles,

Monica Cabico
