ALPHA is the name of the gifted/talented program in the Northside Independent School District. It is based upon the work of Dr. Joseph Renzulli's concept of "giftedness," which addresses the student's intellectual ability, creativity, and task commitment. We recognize that all students are entitled to a program of educational experiences which provide opportunities to maximize the development of their capabilities. GT students in grades K-2 participate in activities that promote creative and independent thinking. Services are delivered by the classroom teacher and/or the GT specialist. Gifted students in grades 3-5 meet each week to attend classes where they study in small groups with a G/T specialist. Interdisciplinary, process-centered mini-studies are designed for these students. Careful interest is paid to students' interests and to their unique learning characteristics.
