Following Dr. Brian T. Woods announcement about his plans to retire as superintendent, the Board of Trustees has been working to ensure that Northside does not miss a beat in the transition of leadership to the next superintendent. One of the most important responsibilities of a school board in Texas is to hire the superintendent. The Board is consulting with the superintendent search team of Mike Moses and David Thompson to assist in finding someone who will continue to move the district forward and continue a tradition of educational excellence.
Four focus groups composed of approximately 20 individuals (staff, students, parents, business leaders, taxpayers) each met this week with the search firm to help the Board determine a profile of the next superintendent.
Potential candidates for the position will continue to be able to contact the search firm until Jan.20. The Board will meet on Jan. 31 to select the best candidates to interview. Two separate weeks in February are reserved for two rounds of interviews with a plan to name a lone finalist by March 1. Texas state law requires a 21-day waiting period for any public comment before the board hires the superintendent. There will be some period of time where Dr. Woods will assume the role of superintendent emeritus to allow for a seamless transition from one superintendent to another.
We understand that change does bring on some anxiety. We know though that Northside’s excellent reputation of a deep culture rich in beliefs and values and a focus on what’s best for students will help us attract highly qualified people to a very demanding job. While we will honor Dr. Wood’s legacy in Northside ISD, we look forward to welcoming the new superintendent and look forward to a bright future for us all in Northside, especially our students.
