Seniors at Northside ISD’s Construction Careers Academy have taken on the biggest challenge of their high school careers- designing and building three tiny homes on custom trailers.

As part of the magnet school’s fifth annual Tiny Homes Showcase, students have constructed tiny homes of approximately 224 square feet each. This year’s theme has a modern rustic flair. The homes are all fully functional with utilities, bathrooms, kitchens, and sleeping areas.

Students began their work last fall and have contributed to the effort based on each strand of study at CCA: Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Construction Management, Architectural Design, and Applied Engineering.

On May 17, judges will select winners that represent categories including- Best Design, Best Kitchen, Best Outdoor Living Space, and Best Overall.

The goal is to auction each of the homes at the end of the competition. The live auction will take place on May 19 starting at 1 p.m. The school is also hosting a free Tiny Home Showcase for the community on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the public is invited to tour the homes. Throughout the day visitors can visit any of the food booths and/or sponsorship booths.

The event also includes a silent auction of student projects (sheds, dog houses, picnic tables, etc.)
