Eleven NISD students are National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Eleven Northside ISD high school seniors from four high schools have been named 2022 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.

They are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Now these top students will compete for National Merit Scholarships worth almost $30 million that will be awarded next spring. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.

Juniors entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
