Folks Middle School to be capped for 2020-21 school year

Beginning June 8, an enrollment cap to reduce overcrowding at Folks Middle School will affect new middle school students who move into a designated capped zone within the Folks attendance area. Instead of attending Folks Middle School, capped students will attend either Jefferson Middle School or Briscoe Middle School depending on their address.

Folks Middle School is located in one of the fastest-growing areas of San Antonio and this growth is pushing the enrollment at Folks Middle School to its capacity. In 2021-22, a new middle school will open that will help overcrowding at Folks Middle School. In the meantime, an enrollment cap will be necessary to accommodate anticipated growth in the area for the next school year.

This enrollment cap affects only new middle school students who move into a capped zone within the Folks attendance area on or after June 8, 2020. Rising sixth-graders in areas of the Folks Middle School boundary are still eligible to attend Folks Middle School provided they are residents before June 8, 2020, and do not move out of the Folks Middle School attendance zone. Transportation will be provided for one year to students that are capped to Briscoe Middle School or Jefferson Middle School in 2020-21.

The cap will be lifted the following year in 2021-22 with the opening of the new, “Kallison Ranch area” Middle School. The boundary process to determine the attendance zones for the yet to be named “Kallison Ranch area” Middle School will take place in late 2020.

For more information about this enrollment cap, please contact your assigned middle school or the Resource Planning Department at (210) 397-7803.
