Free books available to students and staff at Title 1 schools

Forty thousand free books will be distributed to students and staff at 48 Title 1 Northside schools thanks to a partnership with the non-profit First Book and the Northside American Federation of Teachers.

Books will be distributed on a first come, first served basis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Paul Taylor Field House, 7001 Culebra Road.

Each child who attends will receive eight free books of their choosing and staff members who attend will receive up to 20 free books.

Books will be appropriate for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade readers. Volunteers will help with book selection.

Northside ISD Title 1 schools are:

  • Jay and Holmes high schools
  • Jones, Neff, Pease, Rayburn, Ross, Rudder, and Zachry middle schools
  • Adams Hill, Allen, Boone, Brauchle, Burke, Cable, Carlos Coon, Carnahan, Cody, Colonies North, Driggers, Esparza, Fernandez, Fisher, Glass, Glenn, Glenoaks, Hatchett, Howsman, Knowlton, Leon Valley, Linton, Martin, Mary Hull, McDermott, Mead, Meadow Village, Michael, Murnin, Myers, Northwest Crossing, Oak Hills Terrace, Passmore, Powell, Rhodes, Timberwilde, Valley Hi, Villarreal, and Westwood Terrace elementary schools. 

Mini-buses will be provided from each campus for children ages four and up and their parent/guardian. Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees should bring bags to carry their books. Bus pick up is in front of the campus in the typical parent drop off/pick up area.
