Eighth graders and eligible students are invited to attend the 2018 Magnet School Fair from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday Jan. 18 at the Northside Sports Gym, 8400 N. Loop 1604 W., in the Farris Athletic Complex.
Applications are being accepted for the 2018-19 school year for all five NISD magnet programs, which include Business Careers, Communications Arts, and Health Careers high schools, Construction Careers Academy, and the John Jay Science and Engineering Academy.
Northside magnet schools offer a focused, career-specific education for students who show an interest in a particular field or know what career path they want to take. Today, about 3,000 students are enrolled in NISD magnet programs.
All Northside eighth graders are eligible for enrollment. Health Careers High School is the only magnet school to accept students who live outside the District. Some schools accept applications from students already in high school. Please check with individual programs for application and age requirements. Enrollment is limited at each school.
The deadline for applications is Feb. 9, 2018.
At the Magnet School Fair, representatives will be available to provide details about the program and information on the application process. Representatives from the O’Connor HS agriculture program will also attend the Fair.
