Magnet schools offer choices for NISD students

Northside ISD offers six magnet high schools for eighth graders to choose from and several opportunities to learn about each program this fall.

The annual Magnet School Fair is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18, at both Paul Taylor Field House and the Northside Sports Gym. Students, teachers, and administrators from each magnet school will be at both locations. Representatives from the O’Connor HS agriculture program will also attend the Fair.

In addition, each magnet school will host open houses during November and December. Students and families will be able to tour the schools, visit with students and staff, and ask questions during the evening events.

Applications will be available on Nov. 18 for the 2020-2021 school year for Communications Arts and Health Careers high schools; Construction Careers and Jay Science & Engineering academies; Marshall Law & Medical Services Magnet School; and Northside School of Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (NSITE).

Applications can be found on each school's website and are due Jan. 10, 2020.

All Northside eighth graders are eligible for enrollment. All magnet schools can accept students who live outside the District. Some schools accept applications from students already in high school. Please check with individual programs for application and age requirements. Enrollment is limited at each school.

The Northside Sports Gym is located at 8400 N. Loop 1604 W. in the Farris Athletic Complex and Paul Taylor Field House and the Northside Activity Center are located at 7001 Culebra Road.
