NISD cafeteria employees serve more than meals

Celebrating National School Week with cafeteria workers in costumes

It’s National School Lunch Week which is the perfect time to recognize our Child Nutrition Department employees who have been essential workers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They provide meals both curbside and inside school cafeterias making sure that students are fed.

National School Lunch Program (NSLP) aims to highlight the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life. The federally-funded NSLP has been fueling students for success for more than 70 years. Northside ISD will offer free meals this school year through an extended waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).

This week’s video showcases the team at Fernandez Elementary School as they serve up smiles outside the cafeteria, one meal and one student at a time.

Families are also reminded of the importance of applying for the Free & Reduced Lunch program. The application process ensures that qualifying families will continue to receive free or reduced meals even after the current waiver comes to an end. The application can be completed online.
