NISD librarians from across the district will be handing out books to students during the Literacy Night Great Book Giveaway to be held Thursday, May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at both Brennan High School and Paul Taylor Field House.
The goal of the Great Book Giveaway is to place new or gently used books into the hands of elementary, middle, and high school students, free of charge! For the second year in a row, H-E-B and Half Price Books have generously donated bags and books to support the event. This year, sponsors include Thorndike Press, SA Reads, Scholastic Book Fairs, and Macmillan Books.
Last year, an unanticipated number of over 5,000 children took part in the inaugural event. This year, organizers expect even more participation and have prepared to provide over 10,000 bags filled with three to six books in each bag for each location. Books will be handed out as long as supplies last.
All children are welcome to participate in this event whether they are from Northside ISD or from any district in the surrounding area.
Brennan High School is located at 2400 Cottonwood Way; and Paul Taylor Field House is located at 7001 Culebra Road.
