Plans are underway for Northside ISD’s seventh high school magnet school, which will focus on agriculture and be located on the O’Connor High School campus. The school’s existing agriculture program will become a magnet school beginning in August 2021.
The new school will have its own principal and leadership team and students will take courses and participate in extracurricular activities through both O’Connor HS and the new school. In addition to the current agriculture courses offered, the new magnet school will offer expanded programs of study to include a focus on STEM courses that lead to agriculture careers in business, science, research, and technology. These programs will better equip graduates to tackle the challenging problems faced by the agriculture industry.
Beginning with current seventh graders, including those in the O’Connor feeder pattern, students will have to apply to attend and will be selected through a lottery process of qualified applicants.
Students currently enrolled in agriculture courses at O’Connor and eighth graders enrolling for the 2020-2021 school year are not impacted.
