It may not be a typical first day of school for Northside ISD students, but this is traditionally the time that back to school shopping begins. To help in that endeavor, the Annual Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for Aug. 7 through Aug. 9.
As in previous years, most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 are exempt from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar estimates that Texans will save an estimated $87 million in state and local sales taxes during the Sales Tax Holiday.
The Northside website has school supply lists for each elementary school, both for in-person and virtual learners.
School supply lists for middle and high school are provided to students by their teachers on the first day of school. Basic supplies, like pens, pencils, and spiral notebooks, can be purchased ahead of time.
