Save on school supplies, clothing during Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 9-11

For families in the midst of back to school shopping – a reminder that the Annual Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for August 9 through 11.

As in previous years, most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100 are exempt from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar estimates that Texans will save an estimated $90.3 million in state and local sales taxes during the Sales Tax Holiday.

The lists of apparel and school supplies that may be purchased tax-free can be found on the Comptroller’s website.

The Northside website has school supply lists for each elementary school.

School supply lists for middle and high school are provided to students by their teachers on the first day of school. Basic supplies, like pens, pencils, and spiral notebooks, can be purchased ahead of time.
