NISD families can begin to apply for school choice transfers for the 2020-2021 school year on Monday, Feb. 3. Under school choice, a parent or guardian can request his or her child be transferred to another school within the district other than the one serving their residence.
Parents can apply to two kinds of transfers: school choice transfers and program transfers. Program transfers are primarily for secondary schools with specialized programs.
Applications submitted by Feb. 28 will receive priority consideration and will be subject to the lottery. Those received after that date will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. School Choice Transfers are approved subject to available space, which is dependent on projected enrollment and other factors.
Students who are not currently NISD students must first pre-register at their designated home campus in order to submit a School Choice Transfer application.
“We are continually looking for ways to expand school choice to our families,” says Ray Galindo, Deputy Superintendent for Administration. “We are excited to offer an expanded choice of programs and services to meet the needs of our students and families.”
