Stevens High School is hosting its first annual day of service in honor of school namesake Justice John Paul Stevens, who passed away this summer. Their motto is “We Serve, Because He Served.”
More than 30 students groups, approximately 760 students, have selected service projects to complete in the community on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Some groups have picked beautification and trash pickup projects along Potranco Road and Heritage Park near the campus. Others will volunteer at the Humane Society and San Antonio Food Bank.
Some students will be volunteering at a Color Run event at nearby Murnin Elementary School. Others will help support on campus events including a blood drive and dance and volleyball clinics.
Each group will gather in front of Stevens at 9 a.m. for a rally and sendoff. Speakers include Principal Ryan Purtell, a student leader, and Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia.
