Seniors at Construction Careers Academy have taken on the biggest challenge of their high school careers – designing and building three tiny homes on custom trailers. Now that the construction is complete, the public is invited to tour the tiny homes before they are sold.
As part of the magnet school’s sixth annual Tiny Homes Showcase, students built tiny homes less than 275 square feet each.
Two of the tiny homes will be sold on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. Offers can be made between May 1 and May 10 by contacting the school office at 210-397-4294. (The third tiny home will be sold in May 2020 and will be used as a model home over the next year.)
The school is also hosting a free Tiny Homes Showcase that same day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to tour the homes.
The event also includes a silent auction of student projects. New this year is the CCA Homestead which includes chicken coops, deer blinds, benches, and garden beds.
Other student projects will also be up for sale along with food and games.
The tiny homes are all fully functional with utilities, bathrooms, kitchens, sleeping areas, and outdoor space.
Students have contributed to the effort based on each strand of study at CCA: Construction Technology, Construction Management, Architectural Design, and Applied Engineering.
This week, judges will select winners that represent categories including- Best Design, Best Kitchen, Best Outdoor Living Space, and Best Overall.
