Students have sung “Officers in Blue, We Love You” for past 37 years!

When: Friday, Nov. 2 (see schedule below)

Where: Colby Glass Elementary School, 519 Clearview, San Antonio, TX 78228

Who: Representatives from the following departments are scheduled to attend: Bexar County SWAT, San Antonio Park Rangers, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Special Units with K-9, Bexar County Constables, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office-Community Services Unit, Bexar County Constable Pct. 2, SAPD Patrols- Car, Bike and Motorcycle, McGruff the Crime Dog, Holmes High School AF JROTC, and the Northside ISD Police Department.

For 37 years, Colby Glass Elementary School has been thanking law enforcement for what they do for the community. Students, faculty, staff, and PTA join together to maintain this tradition because they believe in the opportunity to build goodwill and solidify the positive image of law enforcement for all who attend “Officers in Blue.”

One former Glass ES student who now works with SAPD will be in attendance and recognized at the Opening Ceremony in the school gym.


8:00-8:20 a.m. – Opening Ceremony - Gym

-          Includes Pledges and presentation of colors by the Holmes HS AFJROTC

-          Guest speakers, Sheriff Javier Salazar and Constable Michelle Barrientes

-          Recognition of Officer Michael Schwab former Colby Glass “Lil’ Husky”

-          Singing of traditional “Officers in Blue, We Love You” song by Glass students

-          Singing of Colby Glass ES School Pride song by Glass students

8:30-11 a.m. – Students will rotate classrooms or outside stations set-up throughout the campus. Officers will talk about their duties and responsibilities pertaining to their jobs and how they keep children and families safe. Some officers bring vehicles and equipment to display and explain how those items assist them in their jobs.

11:30 a.m. – Lunch for police officers in the library. PTA volunteers help decorate and set-up for the luncheon.  (Note: the student body donates lunch for the officers, and any leftover food is donated to local police & fire stations.)

Special Note: In addition to the Colby Glass school family, local businesses including Jason’s Deli, CICI’s Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, and Sam’s Club have donated food and gift certificates for the officers who attend the event.
