Monday morning is the first day back to work for Northside ISD teachers. To help kick off the new school year, about 700 teachers at Holmes, N-SITE, Ross, Esparza, Linton, Martin, Powell, and Villarreal will hit the streets to visit as many families as possible and greet students before the first day of school, Aug. 26.

NISD Superintendent Brian Woods will speak to teachers in the Holmes HS gym before the Block Walk begins. Holmes Cheerleaders, ROTC, Band, Mariachi, and Dancers will also be there to perform for staff.

All staff will be bused to Holmes and then return to their campuses to begin the Block Walk at approximately 9:30 a.m. Teams of three or four teachers will either drive or walk to houses and apartment complexes in their attendance zones. Most have about 30 stops to make.

The principals at these schools (all schools eventually feed into Holmes HS) hope the Block Walk will help strengthen the relationships between school staff and families which in turn will increase student attendance and parental involvement.

Contacts on site: The Principals will be available for interviews – Holmes Principal Ada Bohlken, N-SITE Principal Randy Neuenfeldt, Ross Principal Faustino Ortega, Martin Principal JJ Perez, Esparza Principal Gabriela Garcia, Linton Principal Marty Ortega, and Villarreal Principal Roxanne Gutierrez. (Spanish interviews available)

Media is welcome to follow teams of teachers into the neighborhoods. Please contact Ross Principal Faustino Ortega at 210-391-8293.
