Ten NISD students are National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Ten Northside ISD high school seniors from five high schools have been named 2021 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.

They are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Now these top students will compete for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be awarded next spring. Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.

The Northside ISD National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists are:

Brandeis HS

Bryanna Boone

Kyle Huang

Rebecca Taylor

Clark HS

Riley Arredondo

Cristian Colon

Favour Oladimeji

Health Careers HS

Lindsey Ran

Jay HS/Jay Science and Engineering Academy

Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
