BC and NSITE Families,
Recent changes by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) have made it necessary for us to update our course offerings here at NSITE. The changes from TEA specifically affect our Computer Programming strand. Programming 1 and Programming 2 in their current form are no longer honored by TEA. In order to continue to support our programming students in their education, we recognize this change as an opportunity to even further enhance our computer programming educational offerings. We are excited about these new offerings, as they will give our students opportunities to earn college credit as well as learn some very marketable skills. Our computer programming strand will now be known as Computer Programming and Software Development. Programming 1 will be replaced with AP Principles of Computer Science, and Programming 2 will be replaced with Mobile App Development. BC Seniors will complete their strand with a Practicum in Information Technology. NSITE students will experience the Virtual Enterprises senior capstone course along with classroom instruction aligned with the Practicum of Information Technology. These changes take effect immediately and your counselors will update the course names for you. No further action is required on your part.
The Computer Programming and Software Development program of study was selected from approved TEA courses based on recent updates by the state and decisions were made based on input from faculty, staff, and district specialists in the Career and Technical Education department. The program of study is unique to NSITE and this course of study is not available elsewhere in the district. We hope that you are as excited as we are about these new opportunities - as it allows us to carry forward the best parts of our current practices while offering new opportunities for our students.
