NEWS & NEWSLETTERS

Good evening Panther Families: 11-8-2021

Today, your student received a paper copy of his/her progress report listing all grades and a detailed grade report in any class with a grade less than a 70.  If you have questions about your student's grades, please contact the teacher directly.

This week we will honor our Veterans on Thursday, November 11th beginning with the raising of the flag at 8:10 and then a ceremony in the auditorium beginning at 8:20.  All are welcome to join as we honor our veterans.  Please extend this invitation to any veteran that you may know.  In addition, our social studies teachers gave stars to students to decorate with the name of a veteran in their family so that we may add your family members to our Windows of Warriors in celebration of their service.

FAFSA Night for Seniors - Tuesday, November 9th, we are offering a FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) workshop to assist you and your student with the financial aid process. If you need help completing the FAFSA please register for our workshop using the QR code in the flyer below or by clicking HERE. If you have any questions regarding the FAFSA, please reach out to our College, Career and Military Advisor, Mrs. Vaughn, at 210-397-4842 or via email at irma.vaughn@nisd.net.

Next week we will be giving thanks by donating food for a canned food drive.  Your student will drop food off in the cafe beginning this Friday (11/12) through Thursday (11/18) to support our local Food Bank.  By donating food, students will also be casting votes for the administrator or counselor they would like to see dressed as a Turkey next Friday, November 19th!

Finally, if you would like to recognize a staff member, we have created a form for Panther Praise.  Just fill out the form to generate a certificate for the staff member you select from the drop down menu.  This form will be up all year so feel free to use it at any time to recognize any staff member.

Good evening Panther families,

Your student was given a paper copy of their report card for MP1 today during 2nd period.  This report card is also accessible on HAC.  When you review grades with your student, please also review the attendance totals.  Any student with more than 8 absences will lose attendance for this semester unless attendance recovery hours are completed.  If you have questions about your student's academic progress, please contact the teacher.  For questions about attendance, please contact your student's assigned Assistant Principal.

Next week is Red Ribbon Spirit Week.  The goal of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to support healthy, drug-free kids.  Please see the attached details and help your students take part in this drug free campaign.  For more information about The Red Ribbon Campaign, please click HERE.

Thursday, 10/28, is our Advanced Academics Night at 7 PM in the auditorium.  This night is for any current student interested in taking advanced courses in the future, or who is currently taking an advanced course.  We will be discussing dual credit applications, registration for AP exams and providing those who attend the opportunity to meet our teachers and ask them specific questions about the courses offered at OC.  Representatives from Northwest Vista and Alamo Academies will also be available.

Our final pep rally is Friday, 10/29 at 8:15 in the gym.  At this pep rally, we will celebrate and acknowledge all fall sports.

Attached is our draft of the semester exam schedule for the week of December 13th.  Please make sure your student is in attendance for these dates.  Exams count as 10% of a student's final grades, and exams are not given before these dates.  Students who are absent the day of the exam will receive an "11" and must make up the missed exam in January.

I hope all of you have a rest-filled weekend!

Thank you for all that you do for our kids!

Good evening Panther Family,

Although this week is a short one, it is a busy one!

Tomorrow, the entire campus will be participating in various tests to include the PSAT for 10th and 11th graders and a variety of tests for our 9th and 12th graders.  Please see an earlier email for the specific assignment for your student and know that all room assignments are located in Schoology on the Counselor's tile.

This is also the last week of Marking Period 1.  On Friday, any student failing a class as of 4:30 PM will become ineligible from extra curricular activities at 4:30 pm the following Friday, while students passing all classes will regain eligibility, or remain eligible.  Please check your student's grades on the Home Access Center (HAC) and have him/her reach out to teachers about completing missing assignments or re-tests as soon as possible.  Report cards will be available on HAC next week.

On Friday, October 15th, we will host our traditional "Black Out" pep rally in the auditorium beginning at 8:00 am.  Our football game that evening is against Brennan at Farris stadium beginning at 7 pm.
