Summer Reading is Required For all Zachry Magnet students.
The goal of the Summer Reading Program is to engage ALL students in rigorous, high interest novels (chapter books) of THEIR choice. The key to broadening our love for reading is through pleasure and interest. Throughout the summer, students will actively read a novel and participate in a reading/writing connection activity within the first grading period.
Select a novel (chapter book) of your choice on your grade level from your home, public library, online, or anywhere you find books! You MAY NOT select a picture book, or a book that you have read, or a book that was taught in your previous ELA classes. Summer reading novels need to be read by the end of August 2022.

Novel Choices: we have developed a list of suggested authors and popular novel lists you can pick from. You are not required to choose books from these authors, however, you must choose a book appropriate for your grade level and lexile range (you can find your lexile on the STAAR test results). To the right is a chart that helps you identify what your lexile range should be:
Jason Reynolds Jeanne Duprau

Assignment: You will be required to take digital notes for the book that you are reading. You will find the digital notes by clicking on this link. You will need to make a copy of the file in order to type on it. The instructions on how to make a copy are at the top of the page in red. These notes will be turned in within the first week of school.
While I will be off contract after June 3, 2022, I will be checking my email periodically.
