The counseling
department has four key purposes: Responsive
Services, Guidance, Individual
Planning, and System Support. The services
we provide are explained below. |

Responsive
Services |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
We
offer individual and group counseling to students with specific needs.
Children can be referred to the counselor by a friend, teacher, parent,
administrator or themselves.

The
guidance program is a developmental program, which focuses on various skills
such as: responsible behavior, communication skills, decision-making, problem-solving
skills, etc. We will teach our students about goal
setting and the six pillars of strong character.
Each month will have a thematic focus. |

Individual
Planning |

|
|
|
|
|
We
will work one on one with students to set goals, develop action plans and
review progress throughout the year. These goals may be academic, social,
emotional, or physical. The process of setting and reviewing goals will
be based on the goal setting process taught during guidance classes and
within the regular classroom. |

|
Additionally,
we consult with parents, teachers, and administrators in regard to any
concerns about your child. The State of Texas has mandated the No
Child Left Behind - Student Success Initiative. All third grade students
must pass the TAKS reading test to be promoted to the fourth grade. Parents
of students at risk of not meeting the criteria for promotion will be actively
involved in Grade Placement Committees. This year we will also be offering
our "Love and Logic" parenting groups and Counselor - Parent Coffees for
anyone interested in attending. If we all work together
we can help all of our
children be successful.
