Begin with the end in mind: Planning for High School Graduation

Welcome to the Gifted/Talented and Enrichment Programs website! Enjoy reading about how NISD identifies and services our high-ability students. Parents and community members are encouraged to join our Advisory Council. It is a wonderful way to contribute to public education and support our bright students. We invite you to share ideas and suggestions on how to improve our GT and Enrichment Programs as well as our website.

District GT/Enrichment Coordinator: Priscilla Lurz, (210) 397-8632

The Advanced Learning Programs for High Achievers (ALPHA) is the name of the gifted/talented program in the Northside Independent School District. It is based upon the work of Dr. Joseph Renzulli's concept of "giftedness," which addresses the student's intellectual ability, creativity, and task commitment. Upon identification, gifted students are offered special services to help them maximize their potential.

Northside Independent School District (Northside ISD) recognizes

  • that all children are entitled to a program of educational experiences which provide opportunities to maximize the development of their capabilities.
  • some children possess talents and abilities which need to be fostered, guided, and developed.

In order to nurture within each individual student a desire for excellence and a sense of responsibility to self and society, Gifted and Talented (G/T) education classes are offered to Northside ISD identified gifted students.

Meetings for the Gifted & Enrichment Advisory Council will be held at Driggers Elementary School (6901 Shadow Mist; San Antonio, TX 78238) from 5:30-7:00 p.m. every third Thursday of the month.
