Program
Components
The Northside ISD Guidance Program delivers services to students,
parents and staff through four program components that Texas law
(TEC 33.005+) now prescribes for guidance services in Texas Schools.
*The Guidance Curriculum
component describes sequential, skill-based, and developmentally appropriate
lessons that are taught, typically in class settings, to help students
develop essential life skills. The Student Skill Goals reflect
the content of the lessons presented.
*The Responsive Services
component describes counselor activities designed to intervene on behalf
of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the
student's continued educational, career, personal, or social development
at risk. Counselor may provide individual and/or group counseling,
family/staff consultation, and coordination of other services to assist
students.
*An Individual Planning
system is in place to assist and guide students as they plan, monitor,
and manage their own educational, career, personal, and social development.
Relevant activities may include transition activities between grade
levels, pre-registration and registration, interpretation of standardized
testing, assisting with the goal-setting process.
*System Support
is
offered by counseling staff to augment the efforts of teachers, staff,
parents and other members of the district and community in promoting the
educational, career, personal, and social development of students. Sample
activities in this category can include parent education, staff
development, consultation with parents and staff, student referrals to
other support programs.
