Welcome to the Science Department

The 20 teachers of Science Department provide instruction for approximately 2700 John Jay students. Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Biology, and Chemistry are courses required for graduation. An alternative pathway of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics may also lead to graduation for students completing honors science courses in middle school. These course selection pathways enable students to successfully meet the requirements of the state TAKS Science examination. A variety of elective science classes are also available for further enrichment and preparation for college.

Many students participate in extracurricular activities including UIL competition, science research, science fair competition, and science interest clubs including Environmental Science, SA Best, Cyberways and Waterways, Monarch Monitoring and Purple Martin Research.
