Dear Parents & Students:
The opening of a new school in Northside is always a very special event, not only for the campus staff, but also for the new community that forms around that campus. As the Principal selected to open Northside I.S.D.’s newest middle school, Dr. John Folks Middle School, I am honored and excited at this endeavor!
As I begin to meet the many stakeholders of the Folks Middle School community, I want to introduce myself and share briefly with you my vision for our school. I began my career in education in 1991 in Edgewood I.S.D. after completing undergraduate studies at St. Edward’s University in Austin. I was hired in Northside in 1993 and taught at Pat Neff Middle School for six years. After completing graduate studies at Trinity University, I began my administrative career as an Assistant Principal where I worked at both Anson Jones and Jack Jordan Middle Schools. I assisted in the opening of Rawlinson Middle School as that campus’ first Vice Principal before being named Principal of E.M. Pease Middle School in February 2007.
In selecting the namesake for this campus, the Northside Board of Trustees is recognizing, in a very special way, the legacy of former Superintendent Dr. John M. Folks. He remains a staunch advocate for public education and a leader who endeared himself to staff, parents, students, and community members alike! His is a name recognized across our state for firmly-held convictions about the importance of public education and the need to always make decisions in the best interests of children.
I look forward to creating, along with staff, students, and parents, a community at Dr. John M. Folks Middle School that emulates the philosophy and beliefs of our inspiring namesake!
