The Brandeis Fine Arts Dance Department offers students a comprehensive education in dance. We aim to provide students with a strong technical foundation while nurturing their artistic growth and personal expression. We offer a range of classes (Principles of Dance I-IV), performance opportunities, and performance groups. Students learn a variety of dance styles such as ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary. We have two audition-based performance groups- The Brandeis Ballet Company and our Field Dance Company. The ballet company specializes in classical and contemporary ballet technique; performs at pep rallies, winter and spring shows; and competes in the Junior League of San Antonio's FAME Awards. The field dance company is the visual component of the Bronco Band; specializes in jazz and modern technique; performs at pep rallies, football games, winter and spring shows; and competes in the marching band show.
Brandeis fine arts dance students had the unique opportunity to take class with the dance captains from MJ The Musical thanks to a partnership with the Majestic Empire Foundation. Dancers from the Brandeis Ballet Company and Field Dance Company channeled their inner Michael Jackson as they learned choreography to Smooth Criminal from the Broadway show’s Act II dance break. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session filled with valuable advice about training, auditions, performing, and making it in the industry. What an incredible experience for our dancers!
