About Our Fine Arts Department

The Clark Fine Arts Department offers courses in visual arts, music, theater, and dance. we specialize in developing student creativity, technical skills, and aesthetic appreciation through practical, hands-on learning and performance opportunities. Our curriculum emphasizes artistic creativity, progress towards mastery in performance, and preparing students for college and careers, or lifelong appreciation in the arts.

Choir

Treble Choir I-IV
This course is designed for any Soprano or Alto students who want to sing and learn about their voice. Students of any experience level can join. Campus choir director will assess student skill ability for class placement. Basic music fundamentals for assessment and learning include intonation, tone, rhythm, and technique development. Students are eligible to participate in campus concert performances and UIL performance assessments and will perform music literature from various music genres. Enrollment in this course constitutes some agreement to fulfill all curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular requirements.

Tenor-Bass Choir I-IV
This course is designed for any Tenor or Bass students who want to sing and learn about their voice. Students of any experience level can join. Students are eligible to participate in campus concert performances and UIL performance assessments and will perform music literature from various music genres. Enrollment in this course constitutes some agreement to fulfill all curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular requirements.

Vocal Ensemble I-IV
This series of courses requires concurrent enrollment in Choir classes and an audition with the campus choir director. These classes are designed for students interested in developing extensive detailed performance applications. Students work in a smaller ensemble setting of certain genres of music (i.e. Jazz, Pop, A Capella, etc) and apply skills developed in concert, recital, and other various performance venues.

Dance

Dance Classes I-IV will introduce students to various mediums of dance, including ballet, modern, social dance, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Emphasis is on the development of technical and mind/body coordination skills, physical strength, and creativity. Each member of the dance class is required by the district to participate in two performances.

Instrumental Ensemble

This series of courses requires concurrent enrollment in either Band or Orchestra classes. These classes are designed for students interested in developing extensive detailed performance applications on a specific music instrument. Students work independently at their own pace, in small ensemble settings of unique instrumentation (i.e. brass choirs, woodwind choirs, etc) and apply skills developed in concert, recital, and other various performance venues. Student audio portfolios are created, university audition recitals are developed, and audition preparations for Texas all-state are all part of the curriculum. Each course builds upon the studentโ€™s skill level developed in previous courses of study.

Orchestra

This course is designed for students who play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass). Students must have at least 2 years playing experience for this course. Campus orchestra director will assess student skill ability for class placement. Basic music fundamentals for assessment and learning include intonation, tone, rhythm, and technique development. Students are eligible to participate in campus concert performances and UIL performance assessments and will perform music literature from various music genres. Enrollment in this course constitutes some agreement to fulfill all curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular requirements.

Technical Theatre

Technical Theatre I
This is an introductory course in the technical arts of live theatre. Students will gain hands-on experience in lighting, sound, costuming, makeup, set design, and publicity, while also developing a working knowledge of theatre history, backstage etiquette, and technical theatre vocabulary. Throughout the year, students collaborate in production teams to design, build, and bring multiple theatrical sets to life. From concept to construction, theyโ€™ll work behind the scenes to support school productions and events. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the UIL Theatrical Design Contest, applying their skills in a competitive, creative setting.

Technical Theatre II
This course focuses on specializing into the more defined fields of technical theatre. Students will focus on actualizing student productions including the fine arts musical, 2 main stage shows and UIL One-Act. All students will also take part in Theatrical Design contest. Classwork focuses on scenic study (including lighting, sound, props, costumes, and publicity).
