On the cover: The Northside Education Foundation has been hard at work welcoming our New Teachers by delivering New Teacher grants this week! Ninety-three new teachers will receive $150 each, for a total of $13,950! We have one more day of New Teacher Grant Patrols next week. Will you be the next teacher to be visited by Apple Eddie?

Kris Trejo, now Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services, never imagined that a summer job after high school would launch a career spanning more than 27 years. His path was anything but traditional, beginning in the very district where he once sat in the classrooms of Pease Middle School and Holmes High School.

As a student, Trejo’s world revolved around athletics, with dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. But when a family friend encouraged him to apply for a student worker position in the Warehouse, his future began shifting in a new direction.

“Even though I focused on sports in high school, technology always intrigued me because I am a problem-solver by nature,” Trejo said. “The efficiencies created through technology are what fascinated me most.”

As we celebrate National IT Professionals Day on Sept. 16, we honor Trejo and all of our technology staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure students and teachers have the tools they need to thrive. Click here to read the entire story.

It was a time for celebration as Holmes High School hosted an AP recognition night for all AP testers who received a score of three or higher. This was the campus's first such event, and they plan to make it an annual one.
